Tim’s first full-time professional job was as a book editor at the University of Missouri Press. The press provided a range of editing challenges, from straightforward copyediting projects to more developmental work like historian Henry Steele Commager’s Commager on Tocqueville and technical editing projects like volume 2 of The Topical Notebooks of Ralph Waldo Emerson.
After moving to the Missouri Historical Society in 1994, Tim continued to edit for the University of Missouri Press as a freelancer. He has since edited dozens of books for the University of Missouri Press, in addition to his work at the Missouri Historical Society Press. Today he also copyedits and proofreads The Confluence magazine for Lindenwood University Press.
Because of his diverse background, Tim’s editing skills range from copyediting and proofreading to heavier editing that draws on his ability to write in different voices for different audiences. As with all of his projects, he pays particular attention to deadlines and budgets while completing his work.
