I have lived in St. Louis for more than 20 years. During that time, I have worked as a professional writer and editor in both the non-profit and for-profit sectors. Currently, I work full time as a writer specializing in technology for Centric Consulting LLC while running my communications consulting business, The Write Fox LLC.
My eclectic career has included serving as the first book editor at the Missouri Historical Society Press, editor of Gateway Heritage and I Am East St. Louis magazine, and communications executive for Ameren Corporation. At the Missouri Historical Society Press, I edited the popular St. Louis neighborhood guidebook Where We Live: A Guide to St. Louis Communities (1995) and co-authored From the Palaces to the Pike: Visions of the 1904 World’s Fair (1997). On my own, I also edited and contributed to a book about my neighborhood, Southampton St. Louis: An Unconventional History (Reedy Press, 2017), and my book documenting the history of United Way of Greater St. Louis is pending publication.
As a freelancer, I edited dozens of books for the University of Missouri Press and have written feature articles and book reviews for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Washington University Law Magazine, Saint Louis University Brief, he Jung Journal: Culture & Psyche, and Gateway Heritage. My regular Write Fox LLC clients include Midwest BankCentre, Motivation Technologies, Forest Park Forever, Maryville University, and The Confluence magazine.
In my paid work, I am most proud of my ability to move quickly between different types of projects, from marketing materials and social media posts to white papers, reviews, and short- and long-form journalism. However, I am just as comfortable writing poems, songs, and memoir pieces, all of which I post regularly on The Write Fox Blog. For me, writing is not just my living, but also how I understand and process my life and personal challenges–a journey of self discovery to find meaning in my St. Joseph, Missouri, childhood, the loss of my mother to leukemia, and the challenges of being a 21st-century parent.
